    Operation Torch

    Post  Code Red on Sat Dec 11, 2010 9:13 pm

    Operation Torch

    A new map I am working on set in north africa. I plan on porting all buildings shown into the demo. This will take a long time and as off current I have finished the three axis outposts and am working on the city. I have completed about 1/3 of the city and it has become my project as of the last month. I will be able to accomplish a great deal during xmas holidays though I believe so I am going to give you all a glimpse of my work.

    Looks promising!

    Is this level from Desert Combat by any hope?

    @wicked arsonist - No, this map is not from desert combat. This map is mostly original. I have used the camp layouts and modeled my height map after an infantry map I especially enjoy from bf2. I also used imported desert ground textures from bf2 as they are vastly superior to bf1942 ones and have much greater details. It will most likely use bf1942 vehicles and weapons, Although I may import a UH-60 or something to use as transport as I always thought that would be cool. Of course it would be reskinned, etc to make it appear more 1942 versus modern. But my main problem is the map may be too large. I have already sunk half the map as you could have 64 players easily on my original. I believe you would easily have 32 players on this one. but I have found 15-20 is fine as people just don't use the back bases except to bleed the enemy (btw this map will be conquest)

    @asad - thanks

    BETA

    I will release a beta version of the mod for testers. Hopefully many of you will download this mod and will test for glitches. there will be future released dates (within the next few days) were servers will be hosted and hopefully several people will be on at once.

    Please Download and comment on all found glitches. This help will be greatly appreciated. This is a great map and i believe will be one of the best released for demo. Official v1.0 release will take place whenever I have serveral people dl it and I get feedback from them and fix anything that needs to be fixed.

    Just tested it today... it's a really nice map and the ground textures are pretty neat. The only thing I don't get is why the allies can stop the ticked after having captured only 3 flags out of 7? I think there's a bug there. Also, any reason why the only vehicle on the map is a Kubelwagen?

    hum.. i'm not sure what/why the ticket thing is happening, we will have to test and see. and their are also willies at the back allied base. This is done because the map is supposed to be infantry only. Note: i am considering adding tanks and other vehicals and releasing a normal (all vehicles) and an infantry version of map. This is the main reason I wanted beta testers so i can figure out things like the flags and get second opinions on vehicle usage, etc.

    thanks for the coments and I will be on tmr and we can test and try and figure out the flag problem.

    Work on the mod is postponed as my computer is f*cking me over. I have tried numerous packing software but when i pack it corrupts the file or something. But i know its in the packing as when I installed already working mods and then unpacked and repacked the same mod and it crashes immediately when trying to load a level while it works fine if the mod was packed on someone elses computer. arg this will be a difficult problem to solve
